Join Dr. Kristian Henderson, founder of BLK+GRN, and Christine Platt, the Afrominimalist, for “Letting Go: A Conversation Series.” Developed with the purpose of eliminating toxicity in all its many forms, this conversation series will feature Black women who are leaders in health, wellness, and intentional living.


Be prepared for conversations with an incredible lineup of changemakers who will be vulnerable and provide the resources you need to make strides in 2019 and beyond. “Letting Go” will be held at the beautiful Eaton Workshop in DC.

Avoiding Toxic Birth: Rethinking How Black Moms Give Birth

The statistics are staggering--Black women are three to four times more likely to die from childbirth than non-Hispanic white women, and socioeconomic status, education, and other factors do not protect against this disparity. Kristian and Christine will be in conversation with Aza Nedhari, Executive Director of Mamatoto Village, Inc. and Olivyah Bowens of Her Holistic Path. Aza is a Certified Professional Midwife, Family Counselor, and the Founding Executive Director of Mamatoto Village, a perinatal family support organization in Washington, DC. Olivyah is a birth and postpartum doula serving women in D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Registration is open!

Christine A. Platt is a historian and author of fiction interwoven with narratives of the African diaspora. When Christine isn’t writing or working, she is curating her 630 sq ft living space in Washington, DC.

Dr. Kristian Henderson is a natural lifestyle enthusiast, a yogi, and the founder of BLK+GRN. Her mission has and always will be to connect Black women to the tools, resources, knowledge and products they need to lead happier and healthier lives. She believes that a life free of toxins and all things artificial is a life worth cultivating.


Aza Nedhari

Executive Director/Co-Founder, Mamatoto Village, Inc.

Aza brings more than 15 years of experience in community organizing, reproductive health education, program management and development, and curriculum design. She is a Certified Professional Midwife, Family Counselor, and the Founding Executive Director of Mamatoto Village, a perinatal family support organization in Washington DC that utilizes a three-generation model that integrates a holistic approach to care delivery and extends support toward family stability. 


Aza is pursuing her Doctorate in Human Services with a concentration in Organizational Leadership and Management with an eye towards moving organizations from passion to sustainability and cultivating innovative models of perinatal care delivery in high needs communities.


Aza is a mother to three spirited and gentle children and partner to an amazing artist.

olivyah bowenS

Doula

Olivyah is a birth and postpartum doula serving women in D.C., Maryland and Virginia. She trained to become a doula during her second pregnancy with the local non-profit, Mamatoto Village. Olivyah attended Butler University for Dance and English and now uses her writing skills to speak on various topics surrounding birth, motherhood and the postpartum experience. She is currently apart of Angela Gallo’s Dynamo Doula training and plans to pursue a career in midwifery. Olivyah is available to work with women all across the globe through her virtual doula program which teaches women how to prepare for a peaceful and empowered birth experience. She believes that all women have the right to a positive birth experience.
